You Are My Hope

March 15, 2010

"You Are My Hope"

This is the theme of the month for Trent McKone. God has pointed out to me through various irrelevant circumstances and events that I have not been putting my hope and trust in Him. I have never been able to fully put my hope in him. I would put it in things that do not last. When I first came to Kaleo my trust was in the things that I owned, not completely, but a fair but of my hope. I know that it is a sad thing to say but it wasn't very noticeable to me at that time. The cool part was how God pointed it out to me. When I got here, things started to break, rust, disappear and rot. After that, I really didn't care for physical possessions. I knew they would eventually fade away. The same is with this situation. God has revealed to me that I need to let this go and yearn for the things that he has planned for the future of his kingdom. I need to find my hope in God however that is done. Please pray for me as I do this and keep me accountable.

I still haven't the foggiest idea where God wants me to go in life. As due dates approach for colleges and universities, I still can't pick from the vast amount of options that there are to choose from. With the lack of direction that I have in this area, it almost leads me to think that he doesn't want me to go to school in the fall. I can't remember if I have mentioned this in blog form yet, but one thought that I had was to go down to Haiti and help out for as long as I could afford. I know that God has given me many skills and talents that would be useful down there. I really would like to experience God in a fashion that is not altered by our culture. This wold be a great time to do so. I don't know if this is God's calling but it is an option that popped into my mind.

Other than that, I have been struggling with school. We just had a final exam which I am pretty sure I bombed. Then again, I say that every time and everything ends up fine. Funny how God works that way. This class that we took was really really really hard to pay attention to as our prof was throwing information at us 7 hours a day with minimal breaks. I ended up doing physics problems during the class as I was not physically able to pay attention and absorb the things he was teaching in class. It's really a shame because there is so much good information to be learned in the Gospels. On the positive side, it leaves me with a desire to learn more about it after Kaleo. One of my goals is to re-read, over the duration off the summer, all of the books that we were supposed to read for the classes and actually store some of it in my long-term memory!

Yeah, so only one more month left of this place : (  +  : ) I really miss my family and can't wait to see them again, but yet I really am going to miss the tight community we have here at Kaleo. Please pray that I would make the most of the few days that I have left to learn, serve and enjoy in the Island of Vancouver. After this, I spend a week at home and then go to work for Grandpa in the summer. I know that it will not be an easy transition for me. I was quite lonely out in Yorkton and because I'm used to hanging out with my buddies everyday there, is a possibility that I'll become very lonely out there. So please pray that I would have wisdom in how God wants me to approach these future events.

Agape,

Trent
