No longer a teenager

Jan 11, 2010

Auggh!! Hard to think about, I don't feel anymore mature than I was a year ago, is something wrong with me? Meh, I'll probably never grow up. Regardless, I had an awesome birthday. As tradition goes here at Kaleo, my birthday was celebrated as soon as it happened, 12:00 am. My intern Justin, fooled me into a fake, seemingly-serious conversation while walking in the direction of where they had the cake and I totally fell for it! Next thing I know, all my buddies are jumping around me chanting "Ee Taow, Ee Taow!" (It's true or it's good in the Mouk language) Then they presented me a cake, but not just a normal cake. This cake was special. Why? Because this cake was purchased after the cake department was closed at Safeway, there was no employee to write my name with icing. So Justin ran behind the counter and "borrowed" the icing and wrote my birthday message on the cake. I was also treated to Moxies in the evening where I got a second cake. Like I said, my birthday was awesome!

Although I may not be maturing in my head, I have been under going some serious spiritual maturing. Much of this comes from our Theology in Missions textbook: Kingdom Come. In this chapter the author claims that we put too much emphasis on how Jesus died for individuals and while he did die for our salvation, it does not fully depict why he died. Most of Jesus's parables involve a description the kingdom of heaven, and when he talks about the "Good news," he is pointing mainly to the restoration of the Kingdom of heaven. This is one of the most important things I have learned so far at Kaleo. He died to repair the relationship between God and man and all of creation. I never had a complete understanding of the kingdom of God, and now that I know what it is, my purpose in life seems so much greater and my future isn't as scary as it used to be. I know I have been taught this in Sunday school but sometimes I just don't get it! But regardless, I am excited that God gave me the privilege to be a part of the restoration of his Kingdom.

We went to missions fest Vancouver over the weekend and the most significant thing thing that happened there was a conversation with a man by the name of "Ruleoff," a representative of Galcom. This organization makes solar powered radios and transmitters to spread the gospel were people aren't able to read. I asked Ruleoff is there was any career opportunities and he said they are always looking for volunteers. But they also need people to go into the mission field and install the transmitters and antennas, plus teach the missionaries how to use them. This would be a dream job! I have the skills and abilities to do this type of work and I would enjoy it as well! But it also adds to the great list of things I could do with my life and it doesn't make it any easier to choose. Please pray for guidance as I decide where God wants me to go. Another opportunity is here to work over the summer here at Qwanoes as the Mountain bike leader. Or I could co back to Sask and work for Grandpa. Too many choices.

This next month is also going to be the hardest in terms of school work so could you pray that all of the Kaleo students would set aside their ADD and be able to work on their assignments. Could you also pray for our upcoming involvement in the Olympics?

God Bless,

Trent
